The Cali Connection is the breeder of record for the Tahoe OG strain, and the parents are the part nobody has settled. The reported cross is OG Kush with SFV OG, but that comes from a single or disputed source, with competing versions rather than one agreed cross. The lab record is firmer: 633 results from 2013 to 2023 put THC at 18–26% (grade A).
Tahoe OG origins and disputed parents
We credit the strain to The Cali Connection, which lists it as Tahoe OG Kush on its seed page. No origin year is recorded in our fields, and the parentage carries our lowest lineage grade, L4, meaning unconfirmed. Readers comparing seed listings will find more than one account of how the two reported parents were combined.
The wider Kush story behind it is contested as well. According to High Times, in Danny Danko’s account of Kush history, a widely repeated story says OG Kush reached California through the Lake Tahoe area as a Chemdog clone carried from the East Coast. That is a retelling of a story, not a documented breeding record, and we hold no paperwork that confirms it.
Flavors listed on the breeder’s seed page
The Cali Connection’s Tahoe OG Kush seed page lists two flavors: citrus and earthy. Those are the breeder’s words, not a measurement, and no other flavor description is recorded in our fields. The lab side of that question sits in the terpene profile, where limonene is the second largest share measured.
What the breeder says about effects
The same seed page from The Cali Connection describes the effects as euphoric, hungry, relaxed and sleepy. Those four words are the breeder’s own and are the only effect description we hold for this plant. Effects vary from person to person and are not well studied. Indica, sativa and hybrid are sales labels rather than chemistry, which our indica vs sativa guide explains.
Tahoe OG terpenes and THC in lab results
Across 633 lab results from 2013 to 2023, THC runs 18–26% (grade A), the middle half of those results. CBD is under 1% (grade A, 448 lab results, 2013–2023), so the samples are THC-dominant. Total terpene content is 19.8 mg/g (median, grade A, 444 lab profiles).
In the same 444 profiles, myrcene leads at 25.4% of the terpenes measured (4.77 mg/g, grade A), followed by limonene at 18.8% (3.12 mg/g) and caryophyllene at 17.2% (3.55 mg/g). Pinene is 7.4%, humulene 6.6%, linalool 3.8% and terpinolene 0.5%. Samples fall most often in the terpinolene-myrcene chemovar group, at 53%. Terpinolene names that group but is the smallest share measured here, which is worth knowing before reading the group label as a description of the plant.
Relatives and similar strains by chemistry
The two reported parents both have pages here. OG Kush is the family name the reported cross draws on, and SFV OG is the second reported parent; both relationships rest on the same unconfirmed sourcing. Our lineage record for this strain runs three generations deep.
By lab chemistry, the closest matches we hold are Gumbo, which shares myrcene and limonene in its top three, is THC-dominant and has a similar median THC; Tangerine Dream, where myrcene and limonene also lead and the samples are THC-dominant; and Blue Cheese, on the same two counts. If the terpene shares above are new ground, our note on reading a terpene profile walks through what the percentages and grades mean.
